New On Amazon KDP Print: Author Copies

New On Amazon KDP Print: Author Copies

Amazon now offers you the chance to order Author Copies of your books. You can find full details about this new service here, but I thought we'd cover the basics in today's post.

Amazon has two distribution platforms for books; KDP for the Kindle bookstore, and Createspace for print books. KDP Print basically combines the two, and recently launched a new service for their authors.

Authors can now order copies of their POD books in wholesale volume. This is great news for indie authors looking to promote and sell copies of their books at in-person events.

When you order copies of your own book, you pay just the printing costs plus shipping and applicable taxes. With this new feature, KDP proof and author copies for the UK and the rest of Europe are printed and shipped from within Europe – an improvement for authors who previously used CreateSpace.
By publishing a paperback on KDP, you can reach more readers through Amazon websites in the US and Europe, as well as manage your print and eBook publishing from one website. In addition, you can use the KDP website in English, Spanish, German, French, Italian, Portuguese or Dutch.

What are Author Copies?

Author copies are copies of your live paperback that can be purchased at printing cost. They don't include unpublished changes you've made on KDP.

What languages are available?

Author copies are currently available in English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, and Dutch. Japanese will be added later.
Note: KDP doesn't currently support paperback distribution to Amazon.com.au, Amazon.com.br, or Amazon.nl. Australian users can place orders from Amazon.com or Amazon.co.uk. Portuguese language users can place orders from Amazon.com. Dutch language users can place orders from Amazon.de.

What other services would you like to see Amazon add for it's authors?
