Interview with Cristiane Serruya

Interview with Cristiane Serruya

What genre do you write and why?

I am a multiple-genre author. I’ve published a philosophical essay, contemporary romances, an erotic novella, and I have a kid’s story in the oven. There is not exactly a why I write them, but it’s more like being chosen by them.

Tell us about your latest book.

Love Painted in Red is tells the story of Tavish, a war hero who was POW for 6 months in the hands of the Taliban, and Laetitia, a young woman who as a child and teenager had suffered from lack of love and attention. At its essence, Love Painted in Red is a love story of two people haunted by their troubled pasts, who are trying to survive their traumas and live a full life. Also, there are elements of suspense and action. A thrilling romance made of loss, lust, and love.

What format is the book available in?

Only in digital and print format. I am trying to find a way to have the audio version done, but it’s a bit complicated as Audible only accepts Americans and I am Brazilian.

Who is you favorite character in your book and why?

Tavish Uilleam! He appeared on my first release, Entwined Fates, TRUST Series #1. He grew so much as a character during TRUST Series that I had to write his story.

A war hero, a billionaire hunk, a lonely and tortured Highlander, whose heart no woman has thawed yet, he was POW for 6 months in the hands of the Taliban while serving as a doctor in RAF. After returning to civil life, he forsakes his medical career and assumes a position on one of his family business. But the scars in his soul—and body—are such that in spite of being surrounded with beautiful things, he sees nothing but darkness.

He was a great character to write, especially because I wanted him to be a believable veteran dealing with PTSD, so I interviewed many veterans online and it was an enlightening and heartbreaking experience. He came out beautifully—or so I like to think—with his physical and psychological scars and yet full of life strength and vigor.

How long did it take you to write your book?

Almost two years. My romances are huge and I like to research well the topics I am writing about and if possible do interviews. There is nothing like real input.

Did you learn anything from writing your book that was unexpected?

There were very difficult scenes to write in Love Painted in Red. It was an emotional experience writing of the lead characters’ pains, especially Tavish, a war veteran. The impact of war on soldiers is heartbreaking and I struggled to capture some of that pain in a meaningful way.
Love Painted in Red is my homage to those who dedicate themselves to make this world safer.

Where can a reader purchase your book?

Let’s start with the good news. All my ebooks are on KindleUnlimited, so after you read my interview, visit Cristiane Serruya's Amazon Page and read them all for free! Then there are print versions of the ebooks but so far there are being sold just on my website and on Amazon Store.

What is your work in progress? Tell us about it.

The Diaries Series, from which FROM THE BARONESS’S DIARY: The erotic escapades of Baron Beardley’s wife is the first installment, is a 20th century romantic erotica and it will be released on September 13th, 2016.

It started with a single diary entry I wrote and was supposed to be a bonus scene for the print version of Love Painted in Red, where Laetitia, a painter, used the late Baroness’s diaries to develop a series of erotic paintings, but I realized I would be doing a disservice to my readers if I didn’t develop Lady ChloĆ© Beardley’s own story. You can add From the Baroness's Diary on Goodreads already!

When you’re not writing, how do you spend your time?

I would love to have more spare time. It’s hard to find some while being a part-time lawyer, an almost full-time writer, a full-time mother of 2 teenage daughters and wife of a six-foot-six husband. But when I find it, I read, of course. Don’t ask when I sleep, because I don’t know that myself.
